Major Accomplishments

Rody KLEIN developed a theory of non linear creativity in order to bridge Western Creativity with the Chinese innovation approach.

This work was developed from 1997 to 2002 with help of French philosophers Regis DEBRAY (mediology) and Francois JULLIEN (Sinology), Todd LUBART, Cognitive Psychologist from Yale University and Yannick GEFFROY, Psychologist and Psychoanalyst from the Department of Communication, University of Nice and a team of video game developers and researcher at the French National School of Videogames and Interactive Medias, Angouleme.

This work is very inventive. It is base on the idea that Western intellectual investment has led us toward a strong analytical approach to the world while our Greek heritage was not always like that. The work from Detienne and Vernant (1974) about the Greek Metis and practical intelligence was instrumental to understand that the cosmologic approach and the Greek wisdom could be re-discovered by European if-and-only-if appropriate mediation was organized. His work is showing that an appropriate mediation can come through technology with a touch of "Techne". This is the link with our Groupware technology. The contemporary holistic culture of China, beyond its obvious westernization, can provide that opportunity without making the mistake of Leibnitz: Europeans are not meant to become Chinese and yet they can benefit from its holistic culture and imbedded in our new IT technology. This work about METIS is the theoretical background of METIS project. More than anything else a look at this astonishing work is showing how much capacity to acquire new knowledge was necessary to complete this task.
